Octavio Medellin, a noted sculptor and teacher, demonstrates his craving techinques at the Dallas Museum of Art. 1950's-early 60's.

Octavio was a good family friend and he offered me some words of encouragement while I was in high school which I will never forget. I had been commissioned to produce a piece of sculpture for Skyline high school's court yard. I was asked by my art teacher, Margret Hull to take Octavio and Harry Barch down to see the newly installed sculpture.

Harry started ragging on me about the piece and Octavio got all up in arms and started in on Harry. "Damn........look at what this young man has done," exclaimed Octavio. Here was a man who I admired, who was taking stock of me and made me feel proud of what I had accomplished Anyone who had ever taken a class from Octavio, are had the chance to engage him in conversations could relay a similiar story. He was a wonderful man and we lost him in 1999. M.D.
