Barney Delabano (1926-1997)

Born

Denison Texas, 1926.

Education

Denison Public School- Graduated 1942.

Studied at Aunspaugh Art School, Dallas- 1942-44

Studied painting under Olin Herman Travis at the Dallas Art Institute.

Before entering the Army, he became good friends and worked along side with Charles T. Bowling. Enters Southern Methodist University in 1947. Received B.A., Major in Painting. There he studied with Ed Bearden, Otis Dozier and Jerry Bywaters. He studied again with Otis Dozier and Jerry Bywaters in the late 40's at the Museum of Fine Arts School.

Work Experience

Taught Art in Dallas Independent School District - 1950-58.

Joined Dallas Art Museum in 1958 as associate curator. Served as Assistant to the Director and then Museum Installation Designer.

Retired 1991 after 33 years installing over 400 exhibitions but named Designer Emeritus at the Dallas Museum of Art.
